Lushin
Dubey did her M.Sc. in Childhood and Special Education in the U.S. after
an M.A. in History from Delhi University and then was deeply involved in
teaching mentally challenged kids in the U.S. and in Delhi. In 1987 she
set up Kids World with her cousin Bubbles Sabharwal, pioneering youth theatre
in India. (A festival of Kids World’s three superhits is scheduled for
November and December of the year 2005 in Delhi and Mumbai). In 1999 she
coproduced "Othello", playing the role of Desdemona, which went on to win
the Edinburgh Fringe First. In 2002 she produced and directed "Kids World" along with Bubbles, travelling with it to Bodhgaya, Singapore
and USA. Her two solos "Untitled" and Bitter Chocolate", directed by Arvind
Gaur, have completed 200 and 67 shows respectively. They have been staged
at institutions such as the World Bank, the Smithsonian, Berkeley, Harvard
and Stanford in USA and at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and the Nehru Centre
in the UK. All these productions continue to travel…in cities in India
and overseas. Her most recent issue based production is ‘Muskaan’..
a journey of two people, both living with H.I.V. The production is an expression
of their experiences.. the truth on H.I.V… that elusive joy… the moments
in it. This production has been conceived and directed by her, she also
plays the role of Chitra in this play.
Lushin has acted as a lead in several television serials, including "Rajdhani"
and "Kashmir". She has completed six films, with major roles in two Canadian
films ("Love Story", "Partition") and in the Hindi film "Dil Se Pooch Kidhar
Jana Hai". ‘Love Story is currently premiering in the Asian Film Festival
in Singapore. The other films are yet to be released. Her other passions
are painting and sculpting.
Lushin is married with two daughters, Ilina and Tara. Her husband, Dr. Pradeep
Dubey is Leading Professor, Centre for Game Theory, Stony Brook and Cowles
Foundation, Yale University. He has always fully stood behind her creative
endeavors. Lushin divides her time between India and USA and is involved
in cultural interaction between the two countries, especially via the medium
of theatre.
